A 31-year-old man from Howard City has died after being hit by a northbound vehicle on U.S. 131.

The incident happened about 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, near mile marker 135. The roadway was closed upon arrival, but has since been reopened.

The driver, a 71-year-old man from Muskegon, was checked at the scene by EMS and released.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, the incident is under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Meceola Central Dispatch, Michigan State Police, Mecosta County EMS, Mecosta Township Fire and Rescue, Mecosta County Posse and Mid Michigan Medical Examiner Group.
