Following the initial removal of Grand Rapids Catholic Central from the Division 5 MHSAA football playoffs, the school will now play Comstock Park tonight at 7 p.m.
The Cougars were granted the chance to play after a Kent County Circuit Court judge issued a temporary restraining order against the MHSAA. The lawsuit was filed independently of Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
“We remain fully committed to our players and their families, and to defending Catholic Central’s integrity,” GRCC President Greg Deja said.
The MHSAA has filed an appeal of the restraining order. A hearing is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, in the 17th Circuit Court. If the Cougars defeat the Panthers tonight, the game’s result will still depend on Friday’s hearing.
According to reports, the MHSAA received a video on Monday, Oct. 26, of a housing tour of the subject player’s former home prior to transferring to Catholic Central. The video showed food in the fridge, family photos on the fridge and other siblings living in the home.
