Category: Obituaries

Ralph Dale Logerwell, 85, of Mecosta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at his home with his family by his side. He was born December 14, 1940, in York, Nebraska, the son of Franz and Lorena (Wilkerson) Logerwell.

Ralph graduated from Olmsted Falls High School in Ohio and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University. In October of 1962, he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving for four years and completing two tours in Vietnam.

Ralph owned his own business and worked as a sales representative. On October 20, 1962, he married the love of his life, Barbara Elton. In 1966, Ralph and Barbara moved to Jenison, Michigan. In 1985, they built a home on Big John Brown Lake in Mecosta, a place where they had enjoyed vacationing, and eventually made it their permanent home after moving from Jenison about 10 years ago.

Ralph enjoyed many activities throughout his life. He loved golfing and was an avid pickleball player. He also enjoyed boating and, in his younger years, hunting. Ralph had a strong desire to help others and volunteered at the Mecosta County Senior Center, where he especially enjoyed driving people to their appointments.

He was a devoted member of his church, where he sang in the choir and served on church boards. Ralph’s faith and his commitment to his community were important parts of his life.

Most of all, Ralph loved his family. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great joy in being part of their lives. Ralph was a humble, friendly and outgoing man who was always willing to help. He was easy to talk to, a great communicator and truly a social butterfly. He had a special gift for making friends with just about anybody he met.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, Ann Stanul; grandchildren, Joshua, (Katie) Gardner, Sydney (Dylan) Soncarty, and Kelsey (Kevin) Cavanaugh; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Mariella, Colleen, Saoirse, and Elizabeth; and son-in-law, Steve Gardner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Logerwell; daughter, Robin Gardner; and grandson, Zachariah Stanul.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City. Ralph’s family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Reed City. Care and arrangements are entrusted to Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
