Elenore Lillian Blanchard, 98

Elenore Lillian Blanchard, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

She was born on April 28, 1927, and graduated from Reed City High School. On October 20, 1946, she married the love of her life, Allen Leroy Blanchard. They shared 61 years of marriage until Allen’s passing on May 22, 2007. Together, they raised two daughters, Elenore “Sue” Blanchard and Mary Ellen Tiel.

She worked briefly at the milk company in Reed City before dedicating herself to her family and home as a full-time homemaker. She loved gardening, raising vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Her kitchen was always filled with the smell of freshly baked bread and homemade donuts. She kept a cellar stocked with jams, jellies, and canned fruits and vegetables, which her family cherished.

She and Allen also operated a thriving beekeeping business for over 50 years, a tradition that began with her father, who had served as a bee inspector for the State of Michigan. Together, they harvested honey and shared its sweetness with the community.

A woman of deep faith, Elenore was a longtime member of the Chase-Barton United Methodist Church. She faithfully cared for the church building and played piano for services until she “retired” at the remarkable age of 94. She cherished her church family, joyfully helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and always looked forward to Sunday banquets after worship.

Elenore lived simply, yet richly. She loved hanging laundry on the clothesline, sewing at her machine, and filling her home with hymns played on the piano. Above all, she loved her family. She was known for her hugs and kisses, her handmade quilts and treasures, and the way she delighted in time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She could often be found baking cookies, building treehouses, playing board games, or simply sitting with a child in her lap.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Leroy Blanchard, and daughter, Elenore “Sue” Blanchard. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Bob) Tiel; her grandchildren, Robert (Kathy) Tiel, Tracy (Rodney) Tiel-Blackford, and Jason (Adriane) Tiel; her great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; and one more great-great-grandchild soon to be welcomed into the family.

Patricia (Pat) Alma Kidder, 82

Patricia (Pat) Alma Kidder, adventurous, delightful, sharp as a whip, and fiercely independent, leaves a legacy of loving memories, a stash of empty chocolate wrappers and a vast collection of treasured trinkets for her loved ones.

Although she passed on September 7, 2025, in Big Rapids at the age of 82, her indomitable spirit continues to both awe and inspire those she knew and loved.

Pat was born in Corpus Christi, Texas November 9, 1942, to John and Donna (Halladay) Ernst. Raised in Lansing, she later married Otto Miller and raised four children in Reed City, MI. Ever the optimist, Pat’s resilience and tenacity were put to the test with the discovery of the PBB contamination that ultimately resulted in lost livelihoods for thousands of farming families like hers in addition to a wide range of negative health issues.

Despite the slow, conflicting political response as well as negative public scrutiny, Pat realized early on this wasn't just a small town Michigan problem. She set out to educate herself and advocate with others by forming the PBB action committee, ultimately lobbying on behalf of all the families impacted by this chemical disaster. Pat referred to these as her “crusading years” and her impressive accomplishments are recognized and preserved at the Clark Memorial Library at Central Michigan University.

This life altering disaster not only highlighted her skills as an advocate and activist, but led to living the richest life on a shoestring budget.

Shortly after retiring as a public transportation dispatcher and driver, Pat took her first solo international trip in 2012 to Ecuador, embracing a Spanish language immersion course while exploring the local history and culture. While subbing as a caretaker at the Airbnb in Cuenca, she met guests who became friends and later they traveled to Italy, Croatia and Istanbul together. There was also that solo trip to Thailand, and an adventure in Budapest!

Dispersed throughout these international trips was a variety of domestic travels throughout the United States and Canada with her dear friends, various family members and her partner-in-crime cousin. Pat had such an enthusiastic zest for life. Always eager to hear of another’s adventurous tale and even more excited to say “let’s go!”

Pat is survived by her four children: Cameron Miller, Karen (Daniel) Lee, Corey (Melissa) Miller, and Kendra Miller (Kim Belland); grandchildren: Samantha, Kasey, Allison, Erica, Annie, and Monica; great-grandchildren: Collin, Heidi Colton, Clayton, and Landon; as well as her brother, John (Patti) Ernst; half-brother, R. Jack (Sue) Ernst; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by both parents and two siblings: Dr. Jeffrey L. Ernst and Pamela J. Tubbs. Also preceded in death by her second husband Nathan “Mick” Martin Kidder; with whom she shared a passion for expediting and exploring the United States.

There is no memorial scheduled at this time but a celebration of her amazing life will be in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. To share a memory or leave a condolence, please visit www.daggettfuneral.com

William Frederick Fuller, 82

William Frederick Fuller, 82, of Big Rapids, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids.

He was born May 13, 1943, in Big Rapids, the son of Ray and Margaret (Ryan) Fuller. Bill graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1961, attended Barber College, and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Boiler Engineering. After his career as a Barber, Bill was proud to be employed by Ferris State University as a boiler operator for 33 years where he was known to still give the occasional haircut to co-workers. Unable to sit still after his retirement, he drove bus on a part time basis.

As a beloved Father and Grandfather, Bill raised his family on their farm in Grant Center, a community which he was very proud to be a part of. He enjoyed participating in the Township Hall Square Dances, Potluck dinners and most of all the Deer Hunters Supper every November 14th . He often said “In order to have good neighbors, you need to be a good neighbor”. He was quick to tell people that Bill was lucky to raise his family in such a safe neighborhood surrounded by good people. His love of agriculture drew him to join the Osceola County Sheriff’s Posse, where he was a dedicated member for 63 years and was the longest standing member of the organization.

Known for his strong sense of justice, he would stand up for what he believed was right. Bill believed that helping others was an important part of being a Christian. Sometimes, that help came in the version of the stories he would tell. If you knew Bill, you knew that he loved to tell stories. His memory of events from the past was second to none and he was never short of words. Often times those stories involved recalling jokes played on friends and coworkers.

Bill is survived by his children, Mark Fuller (Michelle Hyde) of Big Rapids, JoAnn (Ray) Smith of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Tammy Mercer (John Sonntag) of Rodney; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Holly) Smith, Cory (Alex) Smith, Chase (Meredith) Smith, Andrea (Sai) Sanil, Shawn (Samantha) Hanford, Remington Fuller, and Wyatt (Megan) Fuller; and four great-grandchildren, Delaney and Brant Smith, Riley Hanford, and Nora Jane Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Ragnone of Swartz Creek, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dan Fuller; and his sister, Maryann Anderson.
