Freddie Lee VanHorn, 61

Freddie Lee VanHorn, born on November 2, 1964, passed away on December 19, 2025, at his home.

Freddie is survived by his beloved son, Conner VanHorn (20),  his brothers, Bryan VanHorn, Craig VanHorn, and Mike VanHorn, and by Conner’s mother, Emme, who was a friend above all else for 25 years. He is further survived by his niece, Kelly VanHorn and family, and his nephew, Bryan VanHorn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Stearns (LaBaron), his father, Freddy VanHorn Sr., and by many friends and acquaintances who, throughout the years, became part of Fred’s extended family.

Fred’s jokes were not always funny, but when you heard him tell them, his own laughter was infectious—and before you knew it, you were laughing too. Children were naturally drawn to Fred, and his kid-like spirit and playful nature made him especially entertaining to them.

Becoming a father later in life both scared and transformed Fred, but he cherished every single moment with Conner. His love for his son was deep, unwavering, and evident in everything he did.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin (Marty), her sons Martin and Joseph, in addition to her parents, Ruth and Wallie Newsted, and 11 siblings. Born on September 23, 1934, she was thankful for her 91 years of life. Barbara spent her young life growing up in Onaway, spending many hours working and helping on her family’s farm. She especially placed a great deal of importance on family and made every effort to pass that same value on to her children and grandchildren.
While she will be missed by her family, all who love her know she is happily reunited with her husband of nearly 60 years. Marty and Barbara were married on July 24, 1954, in Onaway. During the early years of their marriage, they moved several times, finally making Edmore their forever home. Barbara’s children extend sincere appreciation to the caregivers at Arbor Grove. During her four years of residency, Barbara was always treated with the greatest respect and care. John Cassidy Jr., 47

John A. Cassidy Jr. passed away in his hometown of Morley at the age of 47 on December 12, 2025. He was born in Big Rapids on January 6, 1978 to John Cassidy Sr. and Nicki (Boerma) Johnston.

Butch, as his close friends and family knew him, was a seeker at heart. He was always seeking out new opportunities, new friends, and new knowledge. He was never afraid of a challenge. In 1997, Butch enlisted in the U. S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 2005 after serving in the Reserves for some time.

When the opportunity arose to move to Alaska in 2002, John took it in stride. He spent the better part of 10 years in Alaska, where he held multiple positions at ODOM: from sales, to truck driving, and eventually warehouse manager. Butch was proud to have spent the last year and half at Pearson Logistics, where he recently became the Director of Shipping and Receiving.

In November 2022, Butch joined the Big Rapids Masonic Lodge #171. He was honored to become a Master Mason on March 18, 2023. John carried the values of Freemasonry close to his heart, as his Grandpa Boerma was a Mason, Grandma Boerma an Eastern Star, and mother, Nicki, a Job’s Daughter.

When he wasn’t working, John could be found hunting for deer or mushrooms, wine tasting, snow machining, or spending time with his nephews or grandkids (who knew him as Papa). For some time, John even held the position of Service Officer at the Morley American Legion. He also enjoyed watching college football, and seemed to have every U of M statistic memorized. Above all, Butch was a passionate father to his son, Finn. He loved nothing more than spending time with Finn, often playing chess or fishing.

Butch was an exceptional listener, a fierce friend, and would help anyone at any time.

Butch is survived by his parents, Nicki and John; step-mom: Doni; brother: Wayne (April) Cassidy; son: Finn Cassidy; Finn’s mom: Sarah Cassidy; partner: Teresa O’Neil; Teresa’s children: Maverick and Makaylah; grandchildren: Layla, Mallory, and Gerald; step-siblings: Niki Stricker, Shelby Sheler, Kelley Reitzel, Jason Johnston, Elizabeth Ottobre, and Paul Ottobre; nephews: Samuel, Andrew, and Gabriel; as well as countless more aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. In addition to family, John will be greatly missed by his close friends: Dave Whipple, Mark Caudy, Travis Kizer; Grace Heethuis, Jake Stilson, Travis Judd, Mike O’Neil, John Archie Rinck, as well as Ben and Sofia Carter.

John is preceded in death by his Grandma and Grandpa Boerma; Grandma and Grandpa Cassidy; step-father: Kenneth Johnston; Uncle Neil Noordyke; niece: Katelin Cassidy; and cousins: Scott Cassidy and Jonathan Boerma;

Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will take place one hour prior at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Finn Cassidy’s college fund, which is in the care of Sarah Cassidy.

David Lynn Posey, 87

David Lynn Posey of Big Rapids and Reed City, joined his Lord and Savior on December 3rd, 2025 at the age of 87.  He was born on August 5th, 1938 in South Lyon, MI to Lynn and Murial (Guilfoyle) Posey.  At a young age, the family moved to Romeo Michigan where Dave graduated in 1956 from Romeo High School.

In his youth he enjoyed hanging out with friends and playing tennis. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and younger brother Douglas.  He attended Ferris Institute and Central Michigan where he earned his BA in Social work. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega. He later attended Wayne State University to earn his teaching degree in 1962.

In June of 1962 he married Carol J. Clarady of Evart.  They spent the next 8 years, living and teaching in the metro Detroit area where they were close to David's parents and brother. David was a member of the Motor City Camera club where he networked and learned to hone his photography skills.

He first taught upper elementary in Madison Heights and Warren before moving to Reed City in 1973 where he taught at St. Philips and Norman Elementary.

During his years as a classroom teacher he enjoyed making learning fun, caring for his students and always joking around with them.  His students enjoyed building and shooting off rockets, playing spelling baseball, weekly NFL betting sheets with the winner earning candy bars, putting a little aftershave on during class, or working on craft projects. He was always eager to enjoy a good Halloween party where he could join the kids in dressing up in his favorite Halloween costumes. He always enjoyed teaching a good math lesson to kids but his students, later in life, would tell you that the life lessons they learned were as important as his math lessons.

Together they raised their 2 boys in Reed City where he was a member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching his boys play sports and formed great relationships with the players and their families on their sons' teams. He liked playing catch with his sons and teaching them how to garden, hunt, fish and golf.

In the 80’s and early 90’s they hosted 4 exchange students from Finland, Norway, Spain and the Philippines. Timo, from Finland, even returned to attend Northwood.

In the summer, the family would travel around the US, visiting the National Parks.  He would take lots of family and nature pictures during this time. Summer travels expanded to Europe to visit former Exchange Students, Timo and Trine. David and Carol were also camp directors for a few years at Rose Lake Youth Camp.

Around this time he figured if he continued to take lots of pictures, he should go into business as a wedding and portrait photographer.  He photographed over 100 weddings, always enjoying interacting with the bride and groom and capturing those special moments for them as well as taking family pictures of his nieces and nephews.

After retiring in 1993 from teaching and needing something to occupy him in retirement, he planned and oversaw the building of his dream log house at Swiss Alpine, north of Reed City. While there, he fished, cut wood, enjoyed the views of the lake, built a wooden river boat and a wooden flat bottom fishing boat. It was the perfect place to welcome their 2 granddaughters. Lauren and Kate would play dressup, listen to stories and do puzzles next to the woodstove, go swimming, play with playdough, and enjoy time with grandpa.

In 1996 Dave and Carol decided it would be fun to gather friends and neighbors to a pig roast at the log cabin for a day of conversation, food and fun.  In the ensuing 15 years, they continued to have pig roasts where many friends enjoyed each other's company.

As Dave and Carol aged, the winter weather told them to spend some time in Florida.  They found a community they enjoyed where they were close to family. They would go to the beach with friends, play golf, ride bikes, swim, have dinners and play cards at the clubhouse. Dave also volunteered at PGA golf tournaments. He learned to shuffleboard and play Bocce and soon became the person to set up schedules and tournaments for both.  Those friends and times were always special to them.

David (aka “Tom Cruise”) enjoyed his late traveling to his granddaughters golf tournaments, watching lots of Netflix and Hallmark movies, walleye fishing with Brian, gardening, lawnmowing, and going on small vacations with Carol.  He would always enjoy his evenings sitting in his favorite lazy boy outside his garage watching the wildlife and waiting for his next Amazon package.

David is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol. Two sons Brian of Williamston and Mark (Amy) of Big Rapids.  Two granddaughters, Lauren and Kate Posey of Big Rapids.  One brother Douglas (Vicki) of Romeo MI and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at the UMC of Reed City.  Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Saturday, December 13th and Sunday, December 14th from 2-3pm. A Celebration of Life will follow on Sunday at 3:00pm, a light luncheon thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for The UMC of Reed City-Kidz Klub or the Traverse City Junior Golf Association(TCJGA) for a scholarship fund for young golfers.  (TCJGA 5550 Bay Meadows Dr A, Traverse City, MI 49684) -online link for TCJGA (https://www.tcjga.com/give/donate.html).

In 1982, she married the love of her life, John Jewell, whom she met at Sander Draper School in the United Kingdom. As a teenager, Anita proudly played baritone in the Haverettes Girls Marching Band and was part of their British National Championship winning group, also taking part in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in 1996. Her love of music continued throughout her life, later joining the Plymouth Canton Community Choir.

Anita enjoyed golfing, traveling, sunbathing, gardening—where she was known for her green finger—and the camaraderie of the bridge club and playing cards and games with her family. She had an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for all genres of music. She was strong-willed, giving, and unwaveringly dedicated to making sure everyone around her was cared for. Opinionated in the best way, she always let you know where you stood, and her honesty and warmth were pillars for those who loved her.

Life took Anita many places. From 1995–1997 she lived in Plymouth, Michigan. In 1997 the family moved back to the UK, and from 2000–2017 she again resided in Plymouth before settling in Canadian Lakes in 2017.

Anita is survived by her husband, John Jewell; son, Bradley (Rachael) Jewell; daughter, Charlotte (Ben) Nickelson; grandchildren, Preston, Mason, Mia, Sophia, and Henry; her mother, Joyce Tredgett; sister, Elaine (Chris) Coleman; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, David R. Tredgett; her brother, Glen Tredgett; and her beloved dog, Jack.

Marcia married Nile Hutson in June 1963. Together, they raised four children in the home where she would live for the rest of her life. She retired from a long and lively career as a school bus driver.

A devout Christian, Marcia’s faith was evident in her dedication to her church family. Sunday services and Bible-study sessions with “her ladies” were among the highlights of her week.

Marcia was a lover of the outdoors and an avid gardener, always happy to take visitors on what she called her “posy walk,” proudly showcasing her flowers. She fed the birds that gathered in her yard and even welcomed the squirrels who grew fat raiding the birdseed. In winter, she loved snowshoeing through the quiet woods and fields around her home, breathing the fresh air and watching for deer and other wildlife. Marcia also enjoyed regular canoeing trips with her family, sharing her love of nature and inspiring her grandchildren to seek out their own outdoor adventures.

With a large extended family, Marcia welcomed everyone into her home for countless gatherings, especially the annual Thanksgiving celebrations that brought her children and grandchildren back to Morley. She adored these holidays, often spent around a deck of cards playing Euchre, Phase 10, or Canasta, which she fondly called “Cah-nasty.” She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and wife.

And this year, as Marcia leaves this earthly home, we take comfort in knowing she will be celebrating the holidays with her heavenly family, even as those she loved gather here to celebrate her life and the joy she brought to ours.

After retirement, she cherished every moment spent with family and turned most of her time and love toward her granddaughters.

Her granddaughters — Alaina, Addison, and Samantha — meant the world to her. Spoiling them, laughing with them, and nurturing them will always stand as a testament to how deeply she loved being “Frama.”

Though Norma is gone, the warmth of her love and laughter — especially the memories she created with her granddaughters and family — will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Howard Kenneth Edwards, 89

Howard Kenneth Edwards, 89, of Stanton, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 10, 2025. Born to Kenneth Oliver Edwards and Edith Belle Teed Edwards, Howard graduated from the Stanton School System in 1955 and later married the love of his life, Donna Jean Hansen, on October 17, 1958. The two of them went on to build a life full of faith, family, and more than a few good stories.

Howard served the State of Michigan as a correctional officer for 30 years, retiring at the youthful age of 53—just in time to enjoy two full decades of annual Florida sunshine with Donna. When he wasn’t working, Howard could most often be found outdoors: hunting, fishing, splitting wood, camping, or simply taking in the quiet beauty of the countryside. A man who appreciated the simple pleasures of life, he never met a hot fudge sundae he didn’t like, and he held a firm belief that pie—hot or cold—was perfect either way.

He attended Entrican Bible Church with his devoted wife and was known for his dry wit and one-liners that always seemed to land at just the right moment. His sense of humor extended to his storytelling, including the legendary tale of how he “lost a finger to a deer”—a John Deere, that is—when the actual culprit was a corn picker on the family hobby farm.

Howard loved a good meal out, especially if family was along, and he cherished games of euchre with his family. Many memories were made around tables of “dirty marbles,” countless rounds of cards, and special trips to Kentucky Fried Chicken. He also had a fondness for watching cars cross the mighty Mackinac Bridge—something about that quiet, steady movement brought him joy.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Donna Edwards; his daughter, Denise (Chuck) Cobb; his son, Monte (Michelle) Edwards and daughter in law Judi Edwards; and his brother, Bill Edwards. He is also survived by grandchildren, Danielle (Chris) Arganbright, Debbie Decker, Derrick (Chelsea) Bartlett, and Rachel (Logan) Sowles; Jenna Harrison, McKenna (Jordan Johnson) Harrison, Curtis (Rachel) Edwards, Courtney (Jemikal) Papendick, and many more beloved great-grands, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve Edwards; two additional brothers; and his granddaughter, Allison Edwards.

A visitation will be held Sunday, December 14, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore, Michigan. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, with family receiving friends one hour prior. Pastor John MacComber will officiate.

Alicia Fay White, 77

Born October 23, 1948 in Kadoka, SD, the fifth of six children, Alice Fay Letellier’s parents were Lloyd and Esther Letellier. Lloyd ranched and Esther was a teacher and housewife. Alice attended the elementary school in Norris, but later attended and graduated from Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, SD. Eventually she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and became a Registered Nurse (RN).

Having accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, Alice sought to do God’s will. She served Jesus at various SD summer camps and went to Mexico and Canada in an outreach to serve the Savior. While visiting her two brothers at Dallas Theological Seminary, she met Tom and Mary Gordon who eventually moved to Stephenson, Michigan. While visiting the Gordon’s she met and became friends with Gary White. God used Florence Eckstrom to enlist her in mission work on Cat Island, Bahamas. In her second year, Gary visited Alice and later proposed. They were married in Stephenson, MI 09/30/1978, and together returned to Cat Island for 9 additional years where Alice was involved in teaching Bible in the schools, served Jesus at Old Bight Gospel Chapel, and helped with Gary’s camp ministry reaching-out to girls, children, youth and adults.

In 1987, Alice, Gary and Brian moved to Marquette, MI where Daniel was born and Alice worked as a RN in a care facility. They moved to Elizabeth Town, PA and Lansing, MI before moving to Evart, MI, in 1992, where she was a housewife, and homeschooled Brian and Daniel. Some years later Alice went to work at Reed City Hospital/Spectrum Health. After leaving Spectrum, Alice and Gary became foster parents to 19 boys and youth, some of them more than once. The purpose was to give them the opportunity for a better life, while planting seeds of faith.

Over the course of 23 years, Alice made birthday cakes and cooked good meals for the many youth Gary brought home from Pineview Homes. At Calvary Baptist, Alice was instrumental in: forming and teaching Ladies Bible Studies, teaching Sunday School, led the Awana Program for 30 years, taught Junior Church, was a deaconess, used her nursing skills to help others, entertained visiting missionaries and groups, and was a friend to all.

Over the years Alzheimer’s slowly consumed Alice, but her love for others, her sense of humor, her passion for walking, and her enjoyment of God’s creation did not lessen. Alice and Gary were in their 48th year of marriage, and she was in her 78th year of life when Jesus called Alice into glory on 11/09/2025 under the care of Hospice of Michigan. Prayers were answered when Jesus took her home with her family at her side.

Alice was a faithful servant of Christ. She ran the race of faithfulness to life’s finish line ahead of her brothers: Jim Letellier, Don Letellier, Glen Letellier and Roy Letellier. She is also survived by her older sister, Dorothy Peterson; two granddaughters, Sierra and Marissa, born to son, Brian who passed in 2008; son, Daniel White and spouse, Cris of Round Rock, TX, and two granddaughters, Emily and Chloe; third son, David White and spouse, Danielle from northern Michigan, and grandson, Ezra; and her best friend, beloved husband, Gary White of Evart.

Alice leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, love, and devotion for her Creator, her family and others. Jesus called her home because her work here was finished. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Visitation will be held from 11AM to 1PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Evart with funeral services beginning at 1PM on Saturday, November 15th. She will be laid to rest next to son, Brian at Forest Hill Cemetery, Evart. Funeral arrangements and care have been entrusted to Corey Funeral Home, Evart. Condolences can be left online by clicking the Tribute Wall tab. Memorial contributions can be made to Sunshine Bible Academy, 400 Sunshine Dr., Miller, SD 57362

Marcia Kay Hutson, 82

Marcia Kay (Hunter) Hutson, 82, of Morley, MI, completed her earthly journey and began her heavenly one on Monday, November 24, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nile Hutson; her parents, Paul and Lena Hunter; and her siblings, Don and Nancy Hunter.

She is survived by her children, Connie (Les) Sims, Christine (Bill) Heath, Darrel (Terri) Hutson, Colleen (Scott) Crater; her grandchildren, Lena (Tyler) Hendryx, Ian Sims (Shannon Melick), Alex Heath, Megan Heath (Ben Kellar), Nicholas Heath, Rachel Gary, Adam Redinger, Rachael (John) Van Baren, Zachary (Melissa) Crater, Jacob (Shelby) Crater, Joshua (Jade) Crater, Rebekka (Ruben) Moreno, and Ezekiel (Neola) Crater; and thirty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marcia will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home-Lakeview with Pastor Alex Sabol officiating. The family will greet friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley will follow a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Parkinson’s Association of West MI, 7311 Crystal View Dr. SE, Caledonia MI 49316 or Susan Mast Foundation, 2500 Waldorf Ct. NW, Grand Rapids,MI 49544. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Janowicz Family Funeral Home-Lakeview.

Gordon Eldon Tower Sr., 85

Gordon Eldon Tower Sr., 85, of Hersey, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 23rd, surrounded by his loving family.

Gordon was the loving husband of Linda May Tower for 64 years. He was a devoted father to Lonnie (Lynette) Tower, Sue (Wayne) Steffes, Gordon (Angie) Tower Jr., and Shari (Doug) Johnson. He was a proud grandfather to Jeffrey Tower, Jennifer Tower, Nicole Tower, Kristina Jennings, Jason Rizor, Amandalyn Johnson, Dalton Kuklewski, Joshua Steffes, Troy Steffes, Gordon Tower III, Adam Tower, Chelsea Jeffery, Alex Tower, and Douglas Johnson. He was also a loving great-grandfather to 29 great-grandchildren, including his namesake, Gordon IV.

Gordon was born December 28, 1939, in Reed City, Michigan, to Elmer A. Tower and Ina May (McCain) Tower. He grew up with a strong work ethic, a close family, and a deep love for the simple things in life. On October 9, 1961, he married the love of his life, Linda May (Aspinall). They had known each other since childhood—neighbors, friends, and eventually soulmates. Gordon loved telling the story about how Linda lived up the hill from him and how they created a path between their homes, a path that truly did lead them into a lifetime of love.

Gordon attended a one-room schoolhouse on Sylvan Road in Evart until the 10th grade, when he left school to begin working. From peeling potatoes on the Badger in Ludington at age 17, to working at the Pulp Wood plant in Evart, the Salt Plant in Midland (where he met his lifelong friend James Estep), American Seating in Grand Rapids (where he met another lifelong friend and bowling partner Bob Hofmeyer), and eventually Wynalda Litho, Gordon worked hard his entire life. He retired in 1999 but didn’t slow down for a minute. He worked later at Walmart in Big Rapids and then at Vic’s Grocery in Reed City. Even at 75, you could still find him on a roof or fixing something for a friend. Gordon simply never stopped helping people.

Serving God and the church mattered deeply to Gordon. While raising his family in Evart, he served faithfully at Evangel Assembly of God as a song leader and Sunday School teacher. After moving to Cedar Springs in 1972, he stayed committed to serving and became a proud 20-year member of the American Legion Post 287. Later, he became a member at Church of the Rock in Greenville, where he went on a mission trip to Belize to help build homes for families in need. After retirement, Gordon and Linda returned to Hersey, and he once again attended Evangel Assembly of God, serving as an usher and groundskeeper. He took great pride in keeping the church lawn beautiful. In 2017, he began attending New Beginnings Fellowship Church, serving faithfully alongside his son, Pastor Gordon Tower Jr., as a greeter and usher.

Gordon loved people with his whole heart. He was known for his big smile, his strong handshake, his love for country music, and the way he could make anyone laugh. He had a playful way of “picking on” people that made them feel loved. He was always ready to help, fix what was broken, or brighten someone’s day without being asked.

He loved to travel, enjoyed family vacations, and especially loved being a grandpa—wrestling with the kids, telling stories, hunting, and fishing. His family was his absolute joy, and he poured his life into them generously, with love, humor, and strength.

Gordon leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and laughter. That legacy lives on in his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, but he will also be joyfully remembered.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda Tower; children Lonnie, Sue Gordon Jr., and Shari; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren; his sister Nancy Bodman, and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will take place at 3:00 P.M. at the New Beginnings Church, located at 139 W. Church St. in Reed City with visitation starting at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 28, 2025.

James Lee Kingsbury, 87

James Lee Kingsbury, known to many as Jim, entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus, on November 21, 2025, at the age of 87 where he was surrounded by family and friends at Corewell Health Hospital in Reed City.

Jim was born on December 14, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to Ceryl and Irene Kingsbury.

On March 26, 1960, Jim married the love of his life, Rogena Cadle, after meeting on a blind date in Henpeck, Michigan—a story he loved to share, always with a smile. Together, they enjoyed 55 years of marriage, raising a family and building a life marked by love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Jim remarried in 2016, joining his life with Teresa Peterson on October 15, bringing joy and companionship into his later years.

A 1956 graduate of Reed City High School, Jim was a proud athlete who played football, basketball, and track. When not competing, he could often be found at the Reed City Bowl, setting pins on two alleys at once. After high school, he attended the Flint Institute of Barbering, earning a reputation for his exceptional flat tops. Over the next six decades, he continued cutting hair—at the Osceola Inn, the Captain’s Chair downtown, and eventually in the barbershop he installed in his home—all while working full-time jobs.

Jim was a man of many talents and an even stronger work ethic. He worked at Larson’s Car Lot in Clio, Buick, Gardner-Denver, Tubelite, and Royal Greenhouse. He later served as an aluminum fabricator at Alu Fab. Through every role, he approached his work with diligence, humility, and pride.

A true outdoorsman, Jim loved fishing, hunting, tying flies, loading ammunition, and never missed the chance to watch a football game. Go Lions! He nurtured beautiful roses and crafted many prized creations in his workshop, even learning to turn bowls on a lathe. And he was always ready for a good game of cribbage or euchre.

History fascinated him, especially Scripture. He often reflected on Psalm 22:16, “they pierced my hands and my feet,” finding deep meaning in its prophetic words written a thousand years before Christ’s birth. Throughout his life, Jim was also a devoted friend to the many dogs—14 in total—who were blessed to be by his side. He loved them all with gentleness and kindness.

Jim served his country proudly as a member of the Michigan Army National Guard, retiring after 25 years. He was also a faithful member of the Reed City Church of the Nazarene, participating in Men’s Bible Study and joyfully serving with the Shepherd’s Table.

Jim is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Teresa; children, Lynda (Troy) Bowling and Gary (Lesa) Kingsbury; stepchildren; Tamara (Kim) Holladay, Steven Hansen, Angela (Curt) Rotter, Gerald (Jessica) Peters, and Ernest (Samantha) Pedersen; grandchildren Kati (Aaron) Mora, Craig (Mary) Bowling, Staci (Austin) Gillett, Andrew Kingsbury, Jennifer (Mike) Besaw, and Jennifer Galey; step-grandchildren; Harbor

(Alan) Acosta, Nova Hansen, Grace, Olivia, and Dominic Rotter; Owen and Thea Peters; and great-grandchildren Elijah, Benjamin, Carley, and Sienna Mora, Ford and Henrik Bowling, Emerson, Natalie, and Caroline Gillett, Maddox Besaw; Bennett Galey, and Vinnie Jackson.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gary and Tom Kingsbury; his first wife, Rogena Kingsbury; great-granddaughter Giovanna Gillett; and nephew Chad Kingsbury.

A visitation will be held on December 7, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. at the Reed City Church of the Nazarene. A luncheon will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Reed City Church of the Nazarene Shepherd’s Table in Jim’s honor.

Jim lived a life marked by faith, hard work, loyal friendship, and love for his family. His legacy will continue in the countless lives he touched.
