Three women have now been charged for stealing up to $100,000 dollars from a Reed City grocery store.

Cheryl Wolverton, Shelly Stinson, and Corina Johnson have been charged with two counts of larceny of a building. They allegedly stole lotto tickets, cigarettes, and bottle return money from Vic's Supermarket two years ago.

A store manager tipped off police when money went missing. 

Two people are behind bars after police in Big Rapids arrested them on drug charges.

25-year old Emerson Junior Zelaya of Grand Rapids and 32-year old  Stacey Mae Potes of Gobles were arraigned on several drug charges including delivery of cocaine between 50 and 449 grams.

The duo's arrest follows an investigation by the Central Michigan Enforcement Team into alleged incidents in Big Rapids this month.

Bond for Zelaya is set at $500,000, while bond for Potes is set at $150,000.

Three people were taken to the hospital following a two car accident Monday afternoon in Mecosta County.

It happened on Northland Dr. by Rogers Dam, that's where a 52-year old Evart man was stopped to turn left into the Rogers Dam Park, when a south bound vehicle driven by a 70-year old Morley man was unable to stop and rear ended the Evart mans vehicle.

The Evart man along with a passenger and a passenger from the Morley mans vehicle were transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids for non life-threatening injuries. 

As the state decides whether Nestle should double the groundwater drawn from White Pine Springs in Osceola County, a study funded by the company has been released to show their contribution to Michigan's economy. 

According to the report, Nestle created over 750 jobs and $160-million dollars in economic output statewide.

Nestle says the report has nothing to do with the groundwater debate, but environmental groups see the report as part of Nestle's marketing strategy. 

The Department of Enviromental Quality has not disclosed a timeline for reaching a decision.

A Newaygo woman sentenced to life in prison in the shooting death of her husband, apparently witnessed by the victim's pet parrot.

Glenna Duram was found guilty by jury of first degree murder last month after Martin Duram was shot to death in 2015.

The victim's ex-wife, Christina Keller, took ownership of the bird following his death and said the parrot kept saying "Don't (expletive) shoot" --in Martin Duram's voice. Glenna Duram's attorney plans to appeal. 

A Hersey woman has been charged with larceny of her former employer in Reed City.

36-year old Cheryl Wolverton of Hersey is charged with two counts of larceny from a building.

According to court documents, its alleged that Wolverton took lottery tickets from her previous place of employment, Vic’s Supermarket.

Two other former employees are suspected of being involved but have yet to be charged. 

A Vestaberg pair is behind bars accused of selling drugs in Mecosta County.

28-year old Rikki Lei Stauffer and 69-year old Keith Louis Mayers are facing multiple charges involving heroin and methamphetamine.

The pair's arrest and arraignment follows an investigation by the Central Michigan Enforcement Team into alleged incidents that occurred in July and this month in Wheatland Township.

Stauffer’s bond is set at $100,000, while Mayers’ is $200,000.  

Five people were sent to the hospital in Mecosta County following a two car accident Thursday.

It happened on Northland Dr. near Arthur Rd. deputies say that's where a eastbound pickup truck driven by a Stanwood woman failed to stop at a stop sign due to a break failure.  The pickup pulled into the path of a northbound car being operated by a Big Rapids woman.

The car had a total of four people and the pickup only had 1 occupant. The occupants in both vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were all taken to Spectrum Big Rapids ER. 

All of the patients were treated and released for their injuries.

The Isabella County Sheriff says deputies are on the lookout for two men wanted for a larceny of a party store in Union Township.

Michael Main says the suspected larceny took place at K & S Liquor store located on East Blue Grass road.

The two men left in a light Silver or White Ford Mustang.

An Indiana man will be brought back to Osceola County following an incident earlier this week involving property damage of a Reed City business.

Deputies says they responded to a call Monday night of an unlawful driving away of a vehicle and property damage at Kraftube.

When police arrived to the scene they discovered a truck had driven through a fence and struck a fire suppression system. The truck became stuck in the parking lot from fencing.

The Sheriff's office says with help from the public they identified the suspect and is currently in the process of bringing him back to Osceola County to face charges. 

A Midland man is dead following a car accident in Isabella County.

It happened Monday night on Brinton South of Isabella County Line Road in Coldwater Township.

Deputies say a pickup had been traveling North on Brinton road when 41-year old Ronald Post II lost control and the vehicle rolled over at least one time. He was ejected from the truck.

A passerby came across the accident and notified 911 and then started CPR until first responders arrived.

The Midland man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe speed and no seat belt were factors in the accident.

Some says it was a once and a lifetime event, the solar eclipse viewing Monday afternoon.

Those in Michigan saw an 80% partial eclipse, while those in Kentucky saw a full eclipse.

The next eclipse is estimated to occur in seven years.

Do you know this man? The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the person in the picture.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video while burglarizing Palmer's Outdoor Equipment in Mecosta Twp. on Aug. 19^th where several thousand dollars worth of new power equipment was stolen.

Anyone that may know the burglars identity is asked to contact the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office at 231-592-0150. 

The Big Rapids Jaycees was presented with a check from TransCanada Wednesday to improve water safety on the Muskegon River.

The $4,000 check was part of a grant the Jaycees were awarded recently.

Ashley Campau with the Jaycees says they can't wait to get started to use the money that will benefit the Big Rapids area.

"This grant money means a lot to us, It means we can accomplish so many of the goals we have set for the Muskegon River Project, we really to the time to research and figure out what it is that this community needs and how to best serve it educate them on water safety," Campau said.   

The Jaycees have been part of The Muskegon River Safety Project for the last decade. 

Court judges in Mecosta and Osceola counties have recused themselves from future hearings involving the Nestle Waters North America appeal of a local zoning denial the company hopes to reverse in order to build a water pumping station in the area of Evart in Osceola County.

Both 49th Circuit Court judges, the 77th District Court judge and 18th Probate Court judge in Mecosta and Osceola counties excused themselves on Tuesday from hearing the case. 

Its now up to State court administrator, Bruce Kilmer to assign the case to a new judge in Michigan. 

The Isabella County Sheriff says they are investigating a suspicious death.

Sheriff Michael Main says they received a call from a woman who discovered a man inside his vehicle deceased.

During an investigation, deputies found a 45-year-old man from Union Twp., in his driveway. A hand gun was found at the scene but it was located under some clothing in the driveway.

The first responding deputies determined that the incident required further investigation.

According to a press release, it appeared the man may have taken his own life as the investigation continued but the matter is still open waiting autopsy and other follow up by the Sheriff’s Office.

A Newaygo man and Grand Rapids woman face drug charges after being arrested by the Central Michigan Enforcement Team in Mecosta County.

39-year old Jonathan Scott Kuhlman is charged with operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine while 31-year old Vanessa Marie Kinlaw faces a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.

The charges stem from an investigation by CMET officials of an alleged incident in Big Rapids Township on August 5^th. 

Kuhlman's bond is set at $250,000, while Kinlaw's is set at $75,000. 

Consumers Energy will be testing its emergency public warning siren systems near its Rogers, Hardy and Croton hydroelectric generating plants on the Muskegon River Wednesday, August 16 at approximately 9:30 a.m. 

The test will include a voice message, a 30-second siren and a second voice message.

The public does not need to take any action during the tests.

The siren systems are tested each August and December.

In an update we to a story we told you about yesterday, a 29-year-old Fremont man has been charged in connection with the murder of a Muskegon man, who's body was found over the weekend in Newaygo County.

Anthony Blamer has been charged with felony mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual.

Police say D'Anthony Keenan's head and hands had been removed.

Investigators say a fight over money lead to Keenan's death.   

The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the possible murder of a missing Muskegon man who was found in a wooded area.

Deputies say they discovered a deceased black male in the woods of the Crystal Trails area between 20th and 28th streets.

On Monday, Police found the victims SUV 25 miles away in a carpool area in Fremont.

Police are now seeking help from the public, and asking those who currently have trail cameras in the Crystal Trails area for footage from between Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5.

A new piece of medical equipment has been brought to Big Rapids to benefit residents and those in the surrounding area who need hernia or gall bladder surgery.

The da Vinci System allows the surgeon to operate through a few small incisions and perform operations, though their hands are never inside a patient’s body.

Dr. Mark Haan, a general surgeon with Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals is excited to be able to use the da Vinci system and says there are many great benefits to patients.

"I've seen a huge difference in patient recovery with this peice of equipment," Haan Said.  "There is less pain following surgery and thus are not requiring narcotic pain medications, it's also a win for employers because normally a patient is out 4-6 weeks, now they are out only two weeks."  

Haan is scheduled to begin using the da Vinci system this week, initially performing hernia and gall bladder operations. 

A 19-year old White Cloud man was sent to the hospital this morning after suffering a medical issue while traveling in Mecosta County.

Sheriff Deputies say the driver was traveling on Northland Drive near West Ave. when he suffered a medical issue, ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail and went into a ditch that is when the vehicle caught fire.

The White Cloud man was able to get out of the vehicle.

He was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  

A dog running out into the road left one motorcyclist in a ditch unconscious over the weekend.

It happened Saturday afternoon in Isabella County's Sherman Township.

Deputies say a 56-year old man from Ithaca was riding his motorcycle with a group when a dog ran out in to the road and the driver tried to avoid it then lost control and crashed into a ditch.

When first responders arrived, they found the man unconscious but breathing.

The man was flown from the scene by helicopter. His condition is unknown at this time.

A suspect in a drive-by shooting in Montcalm County tried to stab a Michigan State Police K-9 before being arrested.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning in Reynolds Township and police tried to pull over the suspect, but the suspect took off.

Two suspects ran into a wooded area and one tried to stab a K-9 with a pocket knife, but was tased and arrested. Police say the dog suffered a small cut.

The suspects are in the Montcalm County Jail facing several felony charges.

A former public safety director in west Michigan is going to jail for health care fraud. Former Greenville public safety director Mark Reiss has been sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 30 days suspended.

He and his ex wife Christine were accused of defrauding Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan out of $113,000 dollars. They divorced in 2014, but she remained on his city provided insurance.

Reiss will serve his sentence on weekends at the Montcalm County Jail.

His ex wife was sentenced to 50 days in jail, which she has already served.

Due to uncertainty over threats made by the president to stop payments to health insurers, the state of Michigan is delaying posting rate increases proposed by health insurers within the government marketplace.

Rates were supposed to be published Tuesday, but the state was granted a 30-day extension over an uncertain status.

Open enrollment for 2018 begins November 1 and continues through December 15. 

If you pay Consumers Energy for natural gas service, your bill is about to go up.

The Michigan Public Service Commission approved a gas rate increase for Consumers Energy totaling over $29 million.

The increase will allow the utility to further upgrade and modernize its natural gas distribution system by replacing older pipe and equipment.

The approval means the average residential customer will pay an additional $1.66 a month, starting August 7th.
